Joy After Sorrow

“I started painting in the madhouse, where I learnt how to translate emotions, fear, violence, hope and joy into painting.” – Niki de Saint Phalle

The avant-garde sculptor, filmmaker, and painter Niki de Saint Phalle was considered an outsider in the world of art, who suffered from a traumatic childhood. She once said that art saved her from depression and helped her to escape from the trauma of her past. This collection was inspired by her works and I want to express both joy and sorrow through the mixture of many different fabrics and colors, undulating shapes, and multiple layers.
