Project Description

Recapturing the Textile Culture, Heritage & Memories of Arab Street

Raffles College of Higher Education is pleased and proud to partner with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in this project to recapturing the textile culture, heritage and memories of Arab Street.

Raffles Fashion and Jewellery Designers students collaborated with URA and One Kampong Gelam (OKG) to engage the stakeholders of Arab Street to conceive, produce, and present interpretations of the culture, heritage, and memories of the Arab Street textile business through their fashion collections.

Students worked with the textile merchants, to design and produce fashion apparel, utilizing the textiles and haberdashery found on Arab Street.

The collection for Season 1 was showcased at the launch of Cahaya Ramadan officiated by Mr Desmond LEE, Minister for National Development, and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration (MSF), Singapore.
